Water Safety Plans
In the BETV-SAM Project, Water Safety Plans (WSPs) were developed for the arsenic removal technologies that were provisionally verified and certified for sale in Bangladesh. A WSP outlines procedures to foster the safe and effective operation and maintenance of these technologies. The plans clearly identify roles and responsibilities of the technology vendors, international organizations distributing these technologies, Government of Bangladesh agencies and villagers themselves, for the safe and effective use of these technologies.
The project also "pilot tested" WSPs, to ensure that they are realistic and comprehensive. The WSPs can be continuously updated and improved, as more is learned about the use of these technologies.
Water Safety Plans (WSPs) for the four provisionally verified ARTs were drafted and commented on by a sub-group comprised of DPHE, BETV-SAM, ITN-BUET, BAMWSP and BWSPP. A two-day Water Safety Plan (WSP) workshop was held (April 9th - 10th, 2007) at the BRAC Conference Center in Mohkali. The WSPs for the four technologies with Provisional Verification are in the public domain; they can be viewed on the International Training Network Centre-Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology website (www.buet.ac.bd/itn/).
